What Is the WhatsApp Business Code?
The short answer
There is no single code called the WhatsApp Business code. When people ask this, they almost always mean the six digit verification code that WhatsApp sends to a phone number when you register it. Two other things are sometimes called a code: the QR code that opens a chat with your business, and the country code at the start of your number.
| What people call the code | What it is | When you need it |
|---|---|---|
| Verification code | A six digit number sent by SMS or phone call | When you register or move a number |
| QR code | A scannable image that opens a chat with your business | When you want customers to message you easily |
| Country code | The dialling prefix of your country, such as +1 or +44 | When you type your number during setup |
How the verification code works
The code proves that you control the phone number. You enter the number in the WhatsApp Business app, WhatsApp sends the code, and you type it back. Once it matches, the number is registered. If you use the WhatsApp Business API, the number is also usually confirmed with a code during onboarding.
Steps to get and enter the verification code
- Install the WhatsApp Business app and open it.
- Choose your country and type the number, including the country code.
- Confirm the number is correct and request the code.
- Wait for the SMS. If it does not arrive, choose the phone call option.
- Enter the six digits in the app.
- Add your business name and profile details.
Common pitfalls
- Wrong number format. Do not type a leading zero after the country code.
- No SMS arrives. Check signal and storage, then use the call option. Landline numbers need the call option.
- Too many attempts. WhatsApp makes you wait before you can request another code. Wait and try once more.
- The number is already on personal WhatsApp. Registering it on the Business app moves it, so back up your chats first.
- Sharing the code. Never give the code to anyone. Anyone who has it can take over your account.
- Confusing it with the two step PIN. The PIN is a separate six digit number you choose yourself. It protects the account later and is not sent by SMS during registration.
The QR code for customers
The WhatsApp Business app can create a QR code and a short link for your business. A customer scans the code or taps the link, and a chat with your number opens. It is useful on a shop counter, a menu, a receipt or a printed card. It does not log anyone in and it is not a security code.
The country code in your number
The country code tells WhatsApp which country the number belongs to. Enter it first, then the rest of the number without extra zeros or spaces. A wrong country code is the most frequent reason a code never arrives.
Where this fits in running a business on WhatsApp
Registering the number is the first step. After that, the work is answering customers quickly and making sure the next step does not get lost. Teams that outgrow the app often look at the WhatsApp API and AI assistance, with people keeping oversight of the conversations. You can read more about this at kiraco.org.
In short
If a code arrives by SMS or call, it is the verification code, and it belongs only to you. Enter it once, keep it private, and the number is ready for customers.
