How to stop using WhatsApp Business
To stop using WhatsApp Business and keep using your number, move to WhatsApp Messenger and verify the same number there. If you want to delete your WhatsApp account entirely, open WhatsApp Business, go to Settings, then Account, then Delete my account. Do not delete your account just to switch apps.
Choose what you want to keep
You may want to stop using business tools while keeping your conversations and phone number. Or you may want to close the account completely. Choose before making changes, because deleting the account affects more than the app on your phone.
- Use regular WhatsApp: register your number in WhatsApp Messenger.
- Close the account: use Delete my account inside WhatsApp Business.
- Remove the app: uninstalling WhatsApp Business alone does not delete the account.
Switch from WhatsApp Business to regular WhatsApp
- Review the conversations and files you need to keep. Check the backup options in WhatsApp Business before changing apps.
- Make sure you can receive the verification code for your phone number.
- Install the official WhatsApp Messenger app.
- Open it and register the number you currently use with WhatsApp Business.
- Follow the transfer or restore instructions shown in the app, if available. Read any compatibility notices before continuing.
- Check your conversations and files before removing WhatsApp Business.
The same number cannot remain registered in WhatsApp Business and WhatsApp Messenger at the same time. Do not assume that every backup or business feature will transfer. Catalogues, labels and other business tools are not regular WhatsApp features.
Delete your WhatsApp Business account completely
- Open WhatsApp Business.
- Open Settings. On Android, this is usually inside the three-dot menu. On iPhone, use the Settings tab.
- Select Account, then Delete my account.
- Enter your phone number in the requested international format.
- Read the deletion notice and confirm only if you intend to close the account.
Account deletion is irreversible. It removes your account and affects your message history, group membership and WhatsApp backup. It does not erase copies of messages that other people already have.
Avoid these common mistakes
- Deleting the account before switching: deletion is not required to use regular WhatsApp.
- Relying on an unchecked backup: check the available transfer instructions for your phone and app version.
- Confusing app removal with account closure: uninstalling removes the app from your device.
- Assuming deletion cancels a paid service: if a provider manages your WhatsApp Business Platform or API service, check that provider's cancellation process separately.
If you mean a WhatsApp API service
A WhatsApp API service has a different cancellation process from the WhatsApp Business mobile app. Check your provider agreement, active service and number arrangements before requesting closure. Deleting the mobile app does not by itself cancel a provider contract.
